Sierra Kilo Delta

History, identity, and purpose of Sierra Kilo Delta.

Sierra Kilo Delta was founded in May 2020 after a careful study of acronyms and meanings. Flavio Giovanni envisioned the group concept and presented it to Joao Paulo, who then brought together experienced operators to shape the project. Flavio, Fabricio, Fernando, Joao Paulo, and Jose Mauricio became SKD co-founders. The name SKD was chosen to represent the group's values: solidarity in welcoming newcomers to DX, transmission of knowledge to everyone, and the letter "D" to symbolize DX itself. There is also a similarity with the well-known 6KD6 vacuum tubes (Six K D), widely appreciated by radio operators as part of iconic linear amplifiers, reinforcing DX tradition and communication strength. The group was created to provide an alternative space for operators seeking a new approach to DX communications, different from patterns established by an interstate contacts group known at the time. In addition, many visiting operators showed little interest in deeper dialogue, which made a new interaction model necessary. Initially conceived as a "DX School", SKD was created to teach operators how to improve international contacts, including internationally recognized units. The format was similar to a driving school, with theory and practice. As the group grew, challenges emerged. The management model and the number of operators not focused on international DX generated internal debates. After several discussions, the decision was made for SKD to follow an independent path, enabling growth and consolidation of its own identity. From that point on, a structured statute was created with solid principles of ethics, respect, and resilience. Since then... just call on triple five and you will understand who we are. We are no longer only national. We are now worldwide. 73 and good DX.
